Independent living: a successful transition for Julianna!
---Julianna Allen, April 2010
Hi, my name is Julianna Allen. I moved into my first affordable bachelor apartment on April 1st, 2009. It was a bitter-sweet experience, here’s my story: My dog Maple was getting sick in February of that year right around the same time as my Outcomes Facilitator told me about the affordable housing. On
February 20,2009I , unfortunately had to put my dog down. On February 23rd, Peterborough Housing came to visit me. They asked me “Do you have a dog?” and sadly I told them I had to put her down three days before they came. The good news was that I was offered a bachelor apartment two weeks after that. I fell in love with one on the third floor and after some discussion I decided to take it. In the past I have tried many different living situations and I really wanted this one to be successful. I have now lived at Anson House Apartments for just over a year. I keep my apartment very nice and tidy and have support from staff when I need it.
There have been a few growing pains but I am learning to live independently and I am happy! I’m getting busier in my community, and have made many friends at Anson and am happy to have my parents who live close by.
2009 was a bitter-sweet year for me with the loss of my dog Maple, but the positive thing was moving out on my own!
