Monica pays it forward
June 2010 --- Marie Dormer, Outcomes Facilitator, Edinburgh Community Home
Monica Reid has a love of exploring her home and community as much as possible, and she does this through the assistance of her walker. This past year, Monica felt that it was time to look into upgrading her walker that she has been using for many years. Monica expressed this to staff, who assisted with the plan to make this happen.
When Monica heard the news that her Wish Fund application had been accepted she immediately got the ball going on purchasing her walker. Monica has been using her new walker for a couple of weeks now and is really enjoying it. She's not shy to show it off by pointing out to people that her SKY BLUE walker matches her beautiful blue eyes. Monica chose to donate her old walker to Medi-chair's assisted equipment collection for the Haiti Disaster Relief.
Monica met with a representative from Medi-chair, who brought her a flyer that she could look through with various different types of walkers. Monica was able to identify the walker she liked the best and pick out the the model colour: Sky Blue! With this new walker came some roadblocks. Monica learned that walking devices can be quite pricey. With support from her Oucomes Facilitators, she decided to look into applying to the Community Living Peterborough WISH Fund so that she could get this one-of-a-kind walker made just for her.
