Blueboxing - How Blueboxing Works

graham-recycling depotEach campus has been set up in such a way that it is easy for people to recycle. Every area has accessible blue boxes that are clearly labelled. We feel it is the responsibility of each person to recognize what waste they are producing and to ensure everything that can be recycled is recycled.

However, we realize that sometimes people are in a hurry, are unsure of where to put certain things, or experience difficulty in following instructions and that is where we help. Our goal is to educate people on what can be recycled or composted on campus and how to do it.

- We have volunteers stationed at busy dining areas during peek periods to provide proper waste disposal instructions. Since bulk of waste is produced in the dining areas around campus, we concentrate our efforts in these areas, although our work extends far beyond here.

- There are special recycling stations around campus for office recycling of printer cartridges, batteries and cell phones. We monitor these stations regularly and box up the contents to be sent to a specialty recycling business.

- We monitor bulletin boards around campus for dated material which we recycle.

- We collect one-sided paper from offices and bind into booklets which can be reused by students and staff for note-taking.

- We do regular grounds garbage pick-up.

- We work with students and staff on other environmental projects as they surface, like Earth Day.
